Regarding high-end smartphones, market research firms define them as models with wholesale prices not lower than $600, equivalent to CNY 4278. In 2016, the sales percentage of high-end smartphones was only 6%. However, after seven years in 2023, the sales percentage of high-end smartphones reached 24%. From this data, we can see that the average price of smartphones is not only rising domestically but also rising in overseas markets.

Ranked first is Apple, which, despite a slight decrease in market share, still holds the top position with a 71% market share, making it the dominant player in the global high-end smartphone market. Looking back at the previous data, Apple has not been standing still, but rather pursuing a higher-end smartphone market. The significant increase in sales of the higher-priced Pro version is the best proof of this. After seeing this data, I wonder how those who criticized Apple earlier feel now.

Ranked second is Samsung, with a market share increase from 16% to 17% thanks to the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy Z series. The fact that they can secure the first position in global sales proves their strength. According to data from market research firm TechInsights, Samsung leads the foldable screen market in the global third quarter of this year with approximately an 80% market share. Samsung’s S23 Ultra also made the best-selling list in a specific global quarter. If we combine the market shares of Samsung and Apple, the resulting 88% sales share is truly impressive. Domestic smartphone manufacturers still need to work harder in the high-end market.

With the help of the Mate60 series, Huawei’s market share in the high-end market has increased significantly from 3% last year to 5% this year, ranking third in the global list. It is currently the best-performing domestic smartphone manufacturer. With the return of Kirin chips and the official release of the P series, Huawei’s future looks promising in 2024. Some netizens question this, but it is entirely unnecessary because in 2024, Huawei will introduce the Nova12 series, Huawei P70 series, and Mate60 series, among others. The sales volume will definitely be much better than that of the Mate60 series.

Ranked fourth is Xiaomi, which saw a significant increase from 1% to 2% in the high-end smartphone market with the support of the Xiaomi 14 series. From the current situation, it remains to be seen whether the high-end models of 2024, such as the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Xiaomi 15, and Xiaomi 15 Pro, can maintain stability or even improve. Perhaps we will only know the answer in January 2025. OPPO ranks fifth. Its market share remains the same as last year, at 1%. So, Apple is 71 times ahead of OPPO.

If we look at the sales percentage alone, Apple increases by 4 percentage points, while Samsung and Xiaomi each gain 1 percentage point. Huawei takes the remaining 2 percentage points. The market shares of the remaining manufacturers remain unchanged, including OPPO (1%) and other manufacturers (4%). This is the difference between this year and last year. The remaining 4% is the sum of many manufacturers, including vivo, Honor, Meizu, ZTE, Motorola, and Sony, among others.

Qi Ji’s Commentary:

Regarding the global ranking of high-end smartphones, Qi Ji’s thoughts are as follows: From this ranking, Qi Ji once again experiences the strength of Apple and Samsung. Domestic manufacturers still need to work hard. At the same time, Qi Ji also feels the power of Huawei. Despite its limited production capacity and a focus on the domestic market, its ability to make a counter-attack is truly impressive. Xiaomi had a good performance in 2023 and has secured its place in the high-end market. Let’s hope they continue to excel in their future product line. The OPPO Find X7 series this year is really outstanding, and Qi Ji has high expectations for OPPO in 2024.
