As smart home devices become increasingly common, more products are beginning to support the Thread and Matter standards. MediaTek recently announced its collaboration with Google to help drive the growth of the smart home market.

Thread is a wireless mesh networking protocol, considered an upgraded version of ZigBee technology. Matter, on the other hand, is an application layer protocol that is built upon Thread. MediaTek’s latest Filogic chips are designed to support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Thread protocols, aiming for use in more advanced smart home devices.

Additionally, MediaTek plans to integrate Google Home into home appliances in partnership with Google, ultimately facilitating an enhanced smart home experience for consumers. The upcoming Filogic chips are expected to operate on the 2.5 GHz ISM shared frequency band and to feature MediaTek’s coexistence and offloading functionalities for seamless connectivity.

This collaboration between MediaTek and Google is set to further accelerate the development of the smart home market, leading to improved user experiences. In the future, we can look forward to seeing a greater number of products compatible with Thread and Matter standards.
