At the end of 2023, while many manufacturers had already released their flagship smartphones, there was still no sight of the 7 series. Fortunately, OPPO did not disappoint at the beginning of 2024 and brought forth the all-new Find X7 series, with the Ultra version showcasing monstrous imaging capabilities with its dual-pixel quad-camera setup, stunning everyone.

Moreover, the standard version is equally remarkable, powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9300. It boasts innovative technologies such as the Tidal Architecture, a new generation of Ultra Spectral Imaging Engine, and a super-translucent diamond screen, alongside the advanced Andes Large Model empowerment. In every aspect, it offers an experience surpassing even the Pro version, indicating that its capabilities may be somewhat underestimated.

Tidal Architecture Unleashing Pro-level Performance

The MediaTek Dimensity 9300’s exceptional performance is evident to everyone, with its comprehensive core architecture delivering unique and outstanding performance, while also maintaining MediaTek’s excellent energy efficiency. However, OPPO did not stop at this configuration and introduced an exclusive new technology for the Find X7 series – the Tidal Architecture. Unlike traditional performance adjustments, Tidal Architecture operates through a deeper, more detailed, and precise approach.

Tidal Architecture

The Tidal Architecture is OPPO’s self-developed chip-level performance solution, developed in deep collaboration with MediaTek to further explore the performance limits of the Dimensity 9300. It optimizes performance and energy efficiency at the SoC cache level (SLC), achieving more intelligent chip performance scheduling. The Tidal Architecture dynamically allocates cache resources to CPU, GPU, and other computing units according to different application scenarios, improving application running speed. According to OPPO’s lab data, Tidal Architecture’s SLC technology can achieve an average energy efficiency improvement of 8% for the Find X7, thereby enhancing its battery life.

Genshin Impact Frame Rate

The Tidal Architecture can also accurately identify specific scenes within applications, such as exploration and combat in games, and dynamically adjust computing power and storage needs in real-time, achieving super-precise energy efficiency control. In our actual tests, running “Genshin Impact” at 60 frames per second under ultra-high graphics settings for half an hour maintained an average frame rate of 59.9, placing it in the top tier.

In another popular mobile game, “Peacekeeper Elite,” running smoothly at 90 frames per second mode posed almost no pressure on the Find X7. It consistently maintained close to the 90 fps limit with minimal fluctuations. Looking at the CPU usage, it’s evident that, with the support of the Tidal Architecture, the overall scheduling is highly dynamic, rather than simply pushing the frequency higher.

More Pro-level AI Capabilities

In addition to its leading absolute performance, the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 is also at the forefront in terms of AI, equipped with the seventh-generation AI processor APU 790, featuring a hardware-level generative AI engine, enabling high-speed and secure edge AI computing. Through deep collaboration with MediaTek, OPPO became the industry’s first to adopt 4-bit quantization technology (the industry’s best large model-side application solution), implementing the industry’s first 7-billion-parameter large model for on-device applications in the Find X7 series.

AI Engine

The parameter quantity determines the AI’s capabilities and boundaries, but for users, response speed is also crucial for daily experience. The 7-billion-parameter large model used in the Find X7, employing a hybrid edge-cloud working mode, jointly fine-tuned with MediaTek, unleashes the potential of the Dimensity 9300’s AI. The time taken to generate a 200-word summary is only 0.2 seconds, 20 times faster than other smartphones.

The term “AI” has been present in manufacturers’ promotional materials for many years, often hidden in the underlying optimizations, without being very apparent to users. However, when I witnessed the Find X7 erasing passersby from photos, summarizing articles, and even drawing a little kitten as per my request, that’s when I realized that AI is truly here, no longer an elusive concept, but a magical tool accessible to everyone.

Professional-Grade Hasselblad Imaging

In terms of imaging, the Find X7 maintains the three main camera setup of the previous generation. The wide-angle large-base lens uses the LYT808 sensor with a 1/1.4-inch large base, supports OIS optical image stabilization, and has an aperture of f/1.6. It’s worth mentioning that this sensor has been specifically optimized for computational photography, supporting full activation of DCG HDR, as well as DI ADC technology, which can bring about a superior dynamic range and lower shutter delay.

The telephoto aspect remains the highlight, with the Find X7 upgraded to the mainstream OV64B sensor, featuring a size of 1/2 inch, 64 million pixels, and also supporting floating prism stabilization. The image quality at both the 3x native optical focal length and the 6x digital focal length is quite impressive.

The ultra-wide-angle lens uses the Samsung JN1 sensor, with 50 million pixels and an f/2.0 large aperture, achieving a 119° field of view. When used with XPAN mode, it can deliver a very impactful perspective.

Hardware is just the basic foundation; the effects depend on the tuning. OPPO Find X7 also brings a new generation of the Super Fusion Imaging Engine, mainly driven by three major algorithms: Super Clear Image Quality Algorithm, Super Fusion Imaging Algorithm, and Natural Color Algorithm, creating Hasselblad’s master imaging across the entire focal length.

The super clear image quality algorithm uses instantaneous dual-frame technology to enhance the dynamic range and image purity, improving the success rate of casual photography. The super fusion imaging algorithm replicates the delicate calculation of middle tones, reproducing the high expressive power of Hasselblad’s tones, achieving natural overall light and shadow and delicate spatial light and shadow. The natural color algorithm achieves full-link P3 wide color gamut calculation and color management, ensuring accurate and rich colors.

The upgrades in these three aspects have brought the imaging system of the OPPO Find X7 to a flagship level, even surpassing some Pro-level flagship devices. Its strength is not to be underestimated.

Super Pro Diamond Screen

As the carrier of content, the screen also needs to be outstanding enough to judge the quality of photos. The Find X7’s screen is almost on par with the Ultra, using a new generation of luminous materials, with a peak brightness of 4500 nits. With a size of 6.78 inches, a resolution of 450PPI, and support for 1.07 billion colors and a 1-120Hz intelligent dynamic refresh rate, it has achieved leading levels in the industry in terms of clarity, color, and brightness.

Additionally, this screen also supports ProXDR display technology, providing higher contrast and a wider dynamic range, allowing users to experience more realistic and immersive visual effects. Oh, by the way, now the photos taken in portrait mode also support ProXDR.

Moreover, this screen also features all-around eye protection, including hardware-level low blue light, high-frequency PWM dimming, ultra-precise ambient light adaptive adjustments, effectively reducing visual fatigue and discomfort that may arise from prolonged use of the phone.

Standard Version Size, Ultra Version Design

The Find X7 in my hand is in the exclusive Smoke Purple color for the standard version. It utilizes a specially developed optical texture design, with the glossy glass undergoing a frosted process, making it less prone to fingerprints. Additionally, due to the special bisymmetrical texture structure, the glass emits a radiant glow from the middle to the sides, giving off a feeling of tranquility and serenity similar to the calmness of a purple censer and a peaceful waterfall. # The Find X7: A Visual and Technological Marvel

The ethereal purple color of the Find X7 presents different charms as the light and angle change, enriching and captivating its appearance.

In terms of the camera ‘Deco’ design, the Find X7 shares similarities with the Ultra version. It employs concentric circular arcs, draws inspiration from the full-edged design of professional camera lenses, and features the iconic Hasselblad “H” logo, giving it a distinctive and premium feel.
