Huawei’s HarmonyOS Reaches 800 Million Devices and Welcomes Developers for NEXT Edition

On January 18, the ceremony for the launch of Huawei’s HarmonyOS ecosystem was held in Shenzhen, China. Officials announced that the HarmonyOS ecosystem has rapidly expanded to 800 million devices. Additionally, the HarmonyOS NEXT edition is open for developer applications, offering a completely new system that will deliver six ultimate native experiences. Moreover, the initial batch of 200+ native HarmonyOS applications is accelerating, signaling the ecosystem’s transition into its next phase, accelerating the “Harmonization” of various industries and applications.

HarmonyOS Ecosystem Launch

According to official sources, the HarmonyOS ecosystem has rapidly grown to 800 million devices, leveraging comprehensive innovation for diversified scenarios. In the future, HarmonyOS will continue to empower various industries, realizing ubiquitous connectivity and opening up new opportunities in trillion-dollar industries. The consumer-oriented intelligent terminal operating system not only covers smartphones, tablets, and computers, but also extends to PCs, smartwatches, true wireless Bluetooth earphones, smart glasses, smart screens, smart speakers, and new energy vehicles. The commercial release sector is equally rich, encompassing aerospace, transportation, finance, education, resources, and healthcare, among others.

HarmonyOS Ecosystem Growth

The Chinese name for HarmonyOS NEXT is “HarmonyOS Xinghe Edition.” The developer preview version is now open for application. The new system will focus on providing users with ultimate native experiences, characterized by delicacy, ease of use, seamless performance, security, intelligence, and connectivity. Currently, the HarmonyOS ecosystem covers a wide range of domains, with a cohesive landscape of native applications, including convenient lifestyle, travel, finance, social networking, productivity tools, multimedia entertainment, and gaming, among others.

HarmonyOS NEXT Edition

As of now, over 200 native HarmonyOS applications are accelerating their development, featuring familiar icons that cater to the daily needs of the vast majority of users. Briefly, some of these include leading shopping and payment applications like Alipay, JD, UnionPay, and Meituan; financial applications like UnionPay and various banking apps; social media platforms like Weibo and Xiaohongshu; productivity tools including WPS, DingTalk, and Youdao Dictionary; multimedia entertainment apps like Kugou, QQ Music, Bilibili, iQIYI, Ximalaya, and QQ Reading. There are also popular games such as Happy Eliminating, New Swordsman, San Guo Sha, and Landlords, along with essential and commonly used apps like Thunder for downloading, YY for live streaming, Shimo Documents for file viewing, Xunfei and Sogou input methods, Xianyu for second-hand trading, and the cooking app Xiaochu Fang, among others. While apps like Taobao and WeChat may not be visible yet, major players have introduced applications such as Alipay, QQ Music, and QQ Reading. It is believed that more apps will soon join the ecosystem.

HarmonyOS Applications

As of now, HarmonyOS campus open classes have reached 125 universities, involving 305,000 students from 305 universities in HarmonyOS activities, and over 380,000 developers have been certified in HarmonyOS. Developers are an indispensable part of the system, and universities contribute fresh energy to the continuous growth of the HarmonyOS ecosystem. Zhu Yonggang, President of Huawei’s Terminal Cloud, stated that the HarmonyOS ecosystem will enter its second phase, expressing the hope of joining more developers to accelerate the “Harmonization” of various industries and applications.
