Huawei’s Next-Generation P70 Series Leak Reveals New Details

Lately, there have been an increasing number of leaks regarding the configuration of Huawei’s new generation P series imaging flagship, the P70 series. In addition to the previously exposed renderings, processors, and some image parameters, recent leaks have also revealed that the new series is likely to adopt screens from four domestic screen companies: BOE, CSOT, Visionox, and Tianma.

Recently, a digital blogger with the handle @数码闲聊站 revealed more specific parameters of the Huawei P70 series, stating that “the P70 series will also feature a 1.5K deep micro-curved screen, around 6.7 inches, a conventional large narrow screen, a rear camera matrix triangular Deco, and stereo speakers. The OV50H physical variable large aperture solution is good, and it will also come with a high-density battery starting with a 5.” According to this blogger’s previous exposure, the screens for this series are expected to come from BOE, CSOT, Visionox, and Tianma, all domestic screen companies.

The built-in high-density battery is expected to have a capacity at the 5000mAh level and will support stereo speakers. The appearance of the rear camera has also been confirmed, utilizing a triangular Deco, which is consistent with most of the renderings leaked on the internet, showcasing a unique design. Furthermore, Huawei continues to promote the replacement of domestic components, opting for the OV50H main camera, which features a large aperture and variable aperture technology. It is reported that the OV50H imaging sensor was released in January 2023, featuring a 1/1.3-inch optical format, supporting various HDR modes, and high frame rates.

According to official sources, the OV50H sensor has a pixel size of 1.2μm, a resolution of 50 million pixels, and a 1/1.3-inch large base, supporting full resolution 30fps, 12.5MP mode 120fps, and 60fps HDR. The sensor’s four-in-one pixel merging can achieve 12.5 million pixel videos and previews, with a 2.4μm equivalent sensitivity, ensuring excellent low-light performance. It also supports frame rates of up to 120fps, with 4x low-light sensitivity, and features on-chip pixel remapping algorithm for 8K video, as well as 4K video with electronic image stabilization, including 120fps (linear) and 60fps (HDR).

At the same time, this sensor supports H/V QPD, meaning it can achieve horizontal + vertical four-pixel phase detection autofocus, which is more advanced than Sony’s IMX989, making it Huawei’s first CMOS sensor to support H/V QPD. According to previous leaks, the rear camera of the Huawei P70 will be upgraded, employing a 1G6P structure. The main camera of flagship models will be equipped with a 1-inch sensor, and Huawei is also testing a new periscope lens with a 100mm X4 magnification.

Additionally, according to the blogger’s leaked renderings of the Huawei P70 series, the transition from the back edge of the body to the middle frame will feature a curved design. The rear camera module remains in the upper left corner of the phone’s back, housing three lenses arranged in a triangular formation. The middle lens is the largest, and there is the Huawei imaging brand XMAGE logo on top, with the flash located to the left of the module.

In terms of performance, considering that the Mate 60 series and nova 12 series have already used a new Kirin chip, it is almost certain that the Huawei P70 series will return to using a Kirin chip, addressing the regret of using Snapdragon chips in the Huawei P50 and P60. Additionally, based on the leaks, the Huawei P70 series will likely continue to use the Kirin 9000s processor, known for its smooth performance in conjunction with the HarmonyOS. However, there are also reports indicating that Huawei’s 5nm chip development is in the late stage, and it may debut on the P70 series alongside the all-new HarmonyOS NEXT. Furthermore, the Huawei P70 series is expected to come with standard satellite communication capabilities, with the standard version supporting Beidou satellite messages and the Pro version supporting satellite calls.
