Netflix Will Not Develop a Special App for Apple Headsets
According to a report by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple’s Vision Pro headset will not have a dedicated Netflix application upon its release. It is said that the streaming giant has no plans to launch an app specifically for Apple’s headset and is not willing to make its iPad application compatible with the platform.
This move implies that users will be unable to watch Netflix movies and series in a dedicated application. Other streaming services have already expressed their support for this device, including Disney+, HBO Max, Amazon Prime, and Paramount+. Users will have to resort to watching through a web browser, significantly reducing the immersive experience of watching movies or TV shows. This will also lead to users being unable to watch content offline, potentially limiting the resolution, as video quality on Netflix’s web app varies depending on the browser.
Although Netflix had developed an app for Meta Quest headsets before, that application has not been updated for a long time.
In response to inquiries from The Verge, a Netflix spokesperson stated, “Our subscribers will be able to enjoy Netflix content on the web browser of Vision Pro, just like our subscribers enjoy Netflix content on Mac.” Apple has not responded to requests for comments yet.
