On January 17, 2024, at 22:27 Beijing time, the Long March 7 Y8 carrier rocket carrying the Tianzhou-7 cargo spacecraft was ignited and launched from the Wenchang Space Launch Site in China. Approximately 10 minutes later, the Tianzhou-7 cargo spacecraft successfully separated from the rocket and entered its planned orbit. Subsequently, the spacecraft’s solar panels were smoothly deployed, marking a perfect launch success. Next, the Tianzhou-7 cargo spacecraft will rendezvous and dock with the space station module in orbit.

The Tianzhou-7 cargo spacecraft is loaded with consumables for astronauts in orbit, propellant, experimental apparatus, and it also carries the “New Year goods” for the crew of the Shenzhou-17 manned spacecraft to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

This mission marks the fourth launch task of China’s manned space program in the space station application and development phase. It is the 31st launch task since the project was launched and the 507th flight of the Long March series carrier rockets.
