When Samsung released the S24U, many people were inclined to buy the S23U instead… There are three reasons for this: price reduction, curved screen, and 10x telephoto. However, the latter two features have been removed from the S24U, which disappointed many users. But to be honest, the upgraded 50MP 5x telephoto lens is actually good news. In my usual photography, only 5% involves more than 10x zoom, while the remaining 70% is taken with a medium telephoto lens. Therefore, 5x zoom is more practical and useful than 10x!
This is also a future trend, proven by the OPPO Find X7 Ultra, which features two periscopic lenses: 3x and 6x, both commonly used focal lengths. These two focal lengths were chosen mainly for portrait shooting purposes – 3x for indoor and 6x for outdoor photography, resulting in clean composition and compressed background.
Just by looking at the sample pictures released by the company, you can see that popular celebrities like Zhou put their hands on the Find X7 series. The image quality produced by 3x and 6x lenses is very clear. Especially in low-light conditions, it truly tests the quality of the CMOS sensor. The facial features captured are quite three-dimensional, with a tactile texture in skin tone reproduction. The lighting and shadows look natural, giving a flavor akin to a Hasselblad camera. I think focusing on 3x and 6x lenses is indeed the right path to take.
I believe that not only Samsung and OPPO but also other manufacturers will focus more on improving the quality of medium telephoto lenses. What do you all think about this trend?
