Vivo and Nokia Sign Global Patent Agreement to Enhance 5G Collaboration
On February 5, 2024, Vivo announced a global patent cross-licensing agreement with Nokia, covering their standard-essential patents in 5G and other cellular communication technologies. Following the signing of the agreement, both parties will cease all pending litigations in all jurisdictions.
Xu Xianwen, General Manager of Vivo’s Legal Affairs Department, stated, “Through long-term investment in research and development in the field of 5G communication standards, Vivo has established an extensive intellectual property layout globally, creating a leading patent portfolio. We have currently applied for over 6000 families of 5G communication standard patents worldwide. We are delighted to reach a global patent cross-licensing agreement with Nokia, which demonstrates mutual respect and recognition of the value of each other’s cellular standard technology patents, and will contribute to fostering a positive industry environment. Vivo has always respected intellectual property rights and attached importance to their accumulation. We will continue to dedicate ourselves to R&D efforts in smart terminals and intelligent services, offering technological innovation products and services to users worldwide.”
