Patents Reflect Strength? Huawei, OPPO in China’s Top 5

Huawei Leads the Chart Again, a Truly Significant Lead!

Recently, IPRdaily and incoPat jointly released the “2023 China Enterprise PCT International Patent Application” ranking (TOP100). Among the familiar names on the list, Huawei, a giant in the telecommunications industry, secured the top spot with 7822 international patent applications. This not only acknowledges its innovative strength but also reaffirms its leading position in areas like 5G and communication technology.

Other companies in the TOP5, such as CATL and BOE Technology Group, are also well-known. CATL is a manufacturer of power batteries for new energy vehicles, while BOE is a screen manufacturer. With 2153 and 2002 international patent applications respectively, they rank second and third. CATL continuously enhances battery technology, enabling domestic new energy vehicles to outperform. Similarly, BOE has made significant advancements in display technology in recent years, with almost all domestic smartphones now using BOE screens. It’s evident that Chinese enterprises are progressing year by year.

OPPO, as the only tech company in the list solely focused on mobile devices, achieved this remarkable performance, which is truly commendable. Its significant presence in a single track underscores its value. Apart from the 2023 disclosed PCT international patent applications, OPPO has accumulated over 98,000 global patent applications, with more than 54,000 granted patents and over 89,000 invention patent applications. Notably, 91% of these are invention patents, showcasing a substantial patent reserve.

OPPO’s extensive technical reserve stems from its forward thinking. For instance, before the boom of foldable screen products, OPPO started researching related technologies as early as 2015. This foresight enabled OPPO to excel in the foldable screen market. The introduction of features like the flexible outward screen and portrait lens in the Find N3 Flip contributed to OPPO securing the top spot in the domestic vertical folding market in 2023.

This foresight continues until today. Before the mobile industry enters the “AI era,” OPPO had already deployed the Andes big data model and the Pantanal system. The Find X7 series, with a 7-billion-piece edge-side big data model, brings AI to everyone, achieving technological empowerment. OPPO’s recent letter at the beginning of the new year mentioned the accelerating arrival of the mobile AI era. This is evident in the Find X7 series, featuring an enhanced XiaoBu assistant who understands natural language and serves as a caring friend to help you tackle challenges.

The new XiaoBu AI removal feature swiftly eliminates unwanted content in images through powerful AI recognition, providing realistic and natural results as if no editing had taken place. Similarly, the XiaoBu AI call summary function identifies key conversation points, eliminating the need for users to manually record important information, making it convenient for future reference.

ZTE, another member of the TOP5, demonstrates robust strength. Its breakthrough in 5G technology brings fresh changes to the communication industry, laying a solid foundation for the industry’s future.
