Bestselling Phones Globally: Top 10 Revealed. Is Yours Listed?

Recently, several research institutions have successively released reports on the performance of the global smartphone market in the fourth quarter and full year of 2023. Amidst the overall market changes, which models have been top sellers?

Recently, Counterpoint Research announced the TOP 10 global smartphone sales for 2023.

According to the information mentioned in this report, Apple dominated the top seven positions in the global best-selling smartphone list for 2023. Samsung took the remaining three spots, with one more model making it to the list compared to 2022. The total market share of the top ten best-selling smartphones in 2023 reached the highest level ever, increasing from 19% in 2022 to 20%.

Regarding specific rankings, the iPhone 14 by Apple took the lead in 2023 as the best-selling smartphone with a 3.9% market share. In terms of total iPhone sales in 2023, this model accounted for 19%.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max held a market share of 2.8%, ranking as the second best-selling model globally.

With a market share of 2.4%, the iPhone 14 Pro secured the third position in the global best-selling smartphone list.

As an older model under Apple’s lineup, the iPhone 13 continues to perform well in sales, ranking fourth among the best-selling models of 2023 with a 2.2% market share.

The new generation iPhone 15 series entered the global top-selling models list within just three months after its release in September of the previous year. Among them, the iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 secured the fifth, sixth, and seventh positions, while the iPhone 15 Plus did not make it to the list.

As for Samsung models, the Galaxy A14 5G, Galaxy A04e, and Galaxy A14 4G made it to the top ten best-selling list and ranked eighth, ninth, and tenth respectively.

Looking at the entire list of best-selling models, Apple’s iPhone devices hold an absolute advantage in the top ten list, with a total of 7 models listed. As a high-end lineup, this indicates that the high-end market is less affected by the overall market downturn.

However, compared to 2022 when Apple had eight models in the top ten, the total number of Apple models in the global best-selling top 10 list for 2023 has decreased. Nevertheless, Apple still completely dominates the top seven spots on the best-selling list, showing that they maintain a leading position in individual model competition.

Although Apple has 7 models in the list, the Plus versions are absent.

Overall, the Plus versions of iPhones, both in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 series, did not perform as well as expected in terms of sales.

This raises the question of whether Apple will make adjustments to the iPhone lineup in the future.

Samsung’s listed models are positioned at the bottom of the list, with their focus being mid-range and budget models. The relatively low pricing of these devices has garnered positive feedback in many markets.

On the whole, apart from Samsung’s three A series models, other listed models are positioned at a higher level. This seems to indicate that more users are shifting their attention towards higher-end products.

Furthermore, in the full-year smartphone market of 2023, Apple achieved the top spot in terms of shipments. Compared to the full year of 2022, both the overall shipment volume and market share have increased.

Samsung slid to the second position in annual shipments, with a year-on-year decrease of 13.6%.

Xiaomi ranked third, with a similar market share compared to 2022 but a 4.7% decrease in shipments.

OPPO ranked fourth, experiencing a 9.9% decline in shipments compared to 2022.

Transsion ranked fifth, with increases in both shipment volume and market share compared to 2022 (Source: IDC).
