Apple iOS 17 Installation Rates Revealed; iOS 18 Updates Unveiled

At last year’s Apple WWDC 2023 event, the tech giant officially announced the release of the all-new iOS 17. Alongside the launch of the new iPhone 15 series, Apple rolled out the iOS 17 official system update to its users.

Now, in February 2024, the number of users who have installed the new iOS 17 has become a topic of interest. Recently, Apple shared some insights on this matter.

According to Apple’s data on iOS 17 installations: out of iPhones released in the past four years, 76% have installed iOS 17, 20% are still running iOS 16, and 4% are on even older versions.

Among all iPhone devices, 66% have iOS 17 installed, 23% are on iOS 16, and 11% are running earlier versions.

Regarding iPad devices: within the last four years, 61% of iPads have installed iPadOS 17, 29% have iPadOS 16, and 10% are on older versions. Among all iPads, 53% are on iPadOS 17, 29% on iPadOS 16, and 18% are still using older versions.

According to data from IT Home, in the same period of 2023, iOS 16 had an installation rate of 81% on the latest iPhones and 72% across all iPhones. iPadOS 16 had an installation rate of 53% on the latest iPads and 50% across all iPads.

From this perspective, iOS 17 shows a lower installation rate compared to iOS 16, while iPadOS 17 boasts a higher installation rate than iPadOS 16.

Moreover, as time progresses, new leaks about the upcoming major iOS version update from Apple have surfaced, hinting at significant improvements.

Multiple reports have suggested that iOS 18 could potentially be the most groundbreaking software update in iPhone history. As time goes on, more details about the upgrade to iOS 18 have come to light.

The latest leaks indicate that iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 are expected to bring new adjustments in terms of design elements and UI, resembling the design of the visionOS operating system.

Furthermore, Apple might revamp the user interface of iOS, with possibilities of new design concepts for menus, built-in applications, Safari, and more.

In addition, iOS 18 is set to introduce a smarter Siri. The latest leaks suggest that iOS 18 will incorporate generative AI technology, enhancing how Siri and Messages app respond to questions and complete sentences automatically.

Building on this, Apple is exploring generative AI functionalities for its other applications on the platform, including Apple Music, Pages, Keynote, and Xcode.

Reports indicate that Apple plans to integrate large language models into Siri, enabling users to automate complex tasks, with a deeper integration into shortcut applications. This feature is expected to be released in the 2024 iPhone software update, possibly iOS 18.

As the release date approaches, more information about iOS 18 should surface in the coming months, making it an exciting time for interested users.

In retrospect, iOS 17 was compatible with iPhone 14 series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone 12 series, iPhone 11 series, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, and iPhone SE (2nd generation or later).
