On the evening of March 21st, at 7 p.m., the OnePlus Ace3V launch event was officially held. In addition to unveiling a new smartphone, OnePlus also invited the founder of 360 Company, Zhou Hongyi, to discuss the topic of AI phones with the audience.

After the launch event, Zhou Hongyi took the stage. Upon stepping onto the stage, Zhou began with a joke, mentioning that he used to be in the “device” business but has now transitioned to AI. He jokingly remarked that the term “friendly competitors” was familiar to him, and since OnePlus couldn’t discuss them, he would do so himself. Zhou Hongyi also mentioned that while his lectures could be free, advertisements were a must.

After the light-hearted start, Zhou Hongyi proceeded with his speech. He first outlined the four major assertions of large models and sixteen trends in the AI industry’s development by 2024. Zhou stated that large models would be omnipresent in the future, reshaping many aspects of society. These large models will continue to expand, move to the cloud, shrink in size to infiltrate various devices such as computers, smartphones, and so on. Additionally, he touched upon the relationships between AI and AIGC, generative video, robotics, chip performance, energy requirements, and more.

Zhou Hongyi emphasized the concept of AI phones. He believed that the combination of large models and hardware would usher in a new industrial revolution, with smartphones being the best hardware carriers for the next five years. Zhou predicted that the best tools for young people to embrace AI would be smartphones and browsers. Smartphones represent entertainment and lifestyle, while browsers are the primary entry point for work. In the future, AI will be deeply integrated into smartphones, making AI phones more meaningful.

Zhou Hongyi also predicted that large models running on smartphones would emerge this year. However, AI phones were not simply equivalent to “loading large models on phones”; they must be achieved through a combination of cloud and smartphones, creating a hybrid large model pattern. The basic functions of smartphones will be fully AI-driven, combining large models with smartphone APIs and underlying systems to change the rules of the game. Zhou also forecasted that in the future, smartphone apps might disappear, as large models would revolutionize the current form of smartphones. He stated that manufacturers who do not pivot towards AI phones would become the next “Nokia,” implying that AI would enable Chinese smartphone manufacturers to achieve overtaking in the curve. Domestic manufacturers can gradually surpass GPT 4.0 in individual capabilities.

Lastly, Zhou Hongyi mentioned that the popularity of AI phones would depend on the thousand-yuan price range. Only when smartphones in this price range are equipped with large models, it could truly be considered “technological equity.” For AI phones to permeate households like PCs and spark a new industrial revolution, they need to be embraced by the masses.
