On March 30, China Mobile announced the official commercial launch of 5G-Advanced (5.5G), expanding its coverage to 100 cities. Han Boxiao, a product manager at vivo, mentioned that consumers will be able to experience 5.5G services starting in April and exhibited the speed test results of the vivo X100 Pro phone.

The data revealed that the X100 Pro achieved download speeds of 3619.19Mbps and upload speeds of 160.75Mbps. Notably, the phone displayed “5G-A” on the status bar. China Mobile officials also presented even faster test results, with a downlink speed of up to 5132.34Mbps and an uplink speed of 163.07Mbps. Furthermore, the latency was only 19ms, which is ten times faster than 5G.

China Mobile also plans to launch the world’s largest 5.5G commercial network deployment nationwide this year and introduce over 20 new 5.5G terminal devices. Currently, devices like Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen3 and MediaTek Dimensity 9400 are undergoing 5.5G network testing and are expected to receive upgrades in April, marking the imminent arrival of the comprehensive 5.5G era.

It’s worth mentioning that 5.5G (5G-A) represents a crucial stage in the development of future 6G technology. Compared to traditional 5G technology, it offers higher data rates, greater connectivity, and lower latency.
