Redmi to Launch Redmi Turbo 3 on April 10, Pricing Concerns Arise
Redmi has officially announced that they will be unveiling the Redmi Turbo 3 on April 10, and naturally, one of the most pressing questions is its pricing. Wang Teng, who has recently been promoted to the position of Redmi brand manager, discussed the pricing of this phone on social media, stating that “It’s impossible for the Turbo 3 to be priced under 2000.”
Wang Teng explained that the chipset accounts for the highest cost of the entire device. Even last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen2 started at a minimum of 2300. The Turbo 3, equipped with the third generation Snapdragon 8, required an additional investment of nearly one billion, hence the pricing will not be below 2000 yuan. Additionally, Wang Teng mentioned that the Turbo 3 will prioritize large memory capacity, offering not only a 16GB+1TB version but also starting with a 12GB+256GB variant.
It’s worth noting that the previous generation Redmi Note 12 Turbo with the same 12GB+256GB configuration was initially priced at 2099 yuan, so it is possible that Redmi Turbo 3 will adopt a similar pricing strategy. Moreover, a competing product, the OnePlus Ace 3V, has set the price for the same configuration at 1999 yuan, putting significant pressure on Redmi.
Upon the release of pricing information by Wang Teng, many netizens had strong reactions, with most expressing that a price above 2000 makes it difficult to demonstrate value for money, and some suggesting that 1799 yuan would be a more reasonable price point.
Based on the current pre-launch buzz, the main highlight of the Redmi Turbo 3 seems to be the inclusion of the third-generation Snapdragon 8. Performance tests show that this processor does not exhibit a significant performance gap compared to the third-generation Snapdragon 7+, and the Turbo 3 also features a plastic back cover and rear dual cameras. Without an extremely competitive price, it might be challenging to satisfy Mi fans.
Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that Lei Jun mentioned on social media that if the Redmi Turbo 3 achieves its sales target, Wang Teng’s team will receive a Xiaomi SU7 as a reward. Whether the Turbo 3 sells well or not, ultimately depends on whether Wang Teng’s team will be driving that Xiaomi SU7 later on.
