Tech News from CNMO
On April 11th, digital bloggers referenced forecasts from an agency, stating that Apple’s global smartphone shipments decreased by 5 million units in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Apple may fall to third place globally, while Xiaomi is likely to secure the second spot for the second time. Looking back at the second quarter of 2023, where Apple shipped approximately 43 million units, it is highly possible that this number will drop below 40 million in the second quarter of this year.

According to CNMO, Xiaomi surpassed Apple for the first time and became the second-largest global smartphone vendor in the second quarter of 2021. In early August 2021, Lei Jun and Lu Weibing shared Xiaomi’s new achievement on Weibo – advancing to the second spot globally. This achievement was confirmed by four major authoritative market research agencies.
Canalys data reveals that in the second quarter of 2021, Xiaomi held 17% of the global market share, just behind Samsung’s 19%, with an 83% year-on-year growth, surpassing Apple’s 14% market share. IDC reported that Xiaomi shipped 53.1 million units of smartphones, capturing a 16.9% market share globally, ranking second. According to Strategy Analytics, Xiaomi’s global smartphone shipments reached 52.8 million units, with a market share of 16.8%, securing the second position globally. Counterpoint’s report also indicated that Xiaomi shipped over 53 million units, second only to Samsung’s 58 million units.
Based on another set of data from Canalys, in the second quarter of 2023, Samsung, Apple, and Xiaomi took the top three spots in terms of shipments, with 53 million units, 43 million units, and 33.2 million units, respectively. If Apple’s smartphone shipments fall below 40 million units in the second quarter of this year, it is entirely possible for Xiaomi to reclaim the second spot with a strong comeback.
