Get the Scoop on the Upcoming Features of iOS 18

Welcome to the Apple Fan Club, where we have been researching Apple phone technology for a decade! Your Apple expert is here~ With the upcoming May Day holiday, it means iOS 18 is also getting closer and closer!

According to the latest leak by Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, many built-in apps in the iOS system will undergo a comprehensive redesign in iOS 18, including Notes, Mail, Photos, and Fitness, among others.

As for what these redesigns will look like, Gurman did not provide details, possibly due to the limited information he has received.

However, based on earlier rumors, Notes will now support the display of mathematical symbols. The addition of this feature will make it more convenient for users to record mathematical formulas, scientific calculations, and other content, meeting the demands of professional applications.

In addition to the upgrades to Notes, there have been numerous leaks about iOS 18, with the main new features including:

Smarter Siri: Apple will bring generative AI features to Siri, Spotlight, Shortcuts, Apple Music, Messages, Health, Keynote, Numbers, and Pages. These features are expected to be supported by Apple’s on-device large language model (LLM). However, there are also reports that Apple is considering collaborating with third-party AI companies.

Customizable Home Screen: iOS 18 will further open up DIY features, allowing users to customize app icons on the home screen. This change will allow for spaces, rows, and columns between app icons.

Improved Interoperability with Android Messages: Apple has officially announced that later this year, the Messages app on iPhone will support the cross-platform messaging standard RCS. Most likely, this will also be one of the new features of iOS 18.

Calculator Upgrades: The calculator app will receive a major update in the iOS 18 system, including a sidebar listing recent calculations, an improved unit conversion interface, and integration with the Notes app. Additionally, the calculator app is also expected to appear in the iPadOS system, meaning iPad models will also have the calculator app.

Safari’s New AI Assistant: iOS 18 may introduce an AI assistant for the Safari browser, similar to Microsoft’s Copilot assistant, providing new AI capabilities.

AirPods Assistive Listening Mode: According to Gurman’s previous report, Apple will introduce an “assistive listening mode” for the AirPods Pro models in the iOS 18 system, which may also support the AirPods 4 headphones to be released this fall.

Customizable Routes in Maps: The built-in Maps app in iOS 18 will support custom routes and terrain maps. Custom routes will allow users to choose specific roads for navigation, while terrain maps will include detailed information such as paths, contour lines, elevations, and points of interest for hiking and other outdoor activities.

As per Apple’s official announcement, the WWDC 2024 developer conference will be held online from June 11th to 15th, Beijing time. At that time, the latest iOS 18 will also be unveiled. Let’s wait and see!
