Huawei Ranks 6th in ’23 Activation, Trails Xiaomi

Ranking of Huawei in the Chinese Smartphone Market in 2023

Recently, an authoritative market research agency released the “2023 Ranking of the Chinese Smartphone Market.” After seeing the rankings, many people were astonished and some even exclaimed that it was somewhat unexpected. In 2023, the number of Huawei smartphone activations reached as high as 32.407 million units, ranking sixth, closely following Xiaomi. The surprise at this achievement among people is mainly due to the following reasons:

Huawei Ranking

  1. Huawei smartphones truly made a comeback only in the fourth quarter of 2023, with the release of the Huawei Mate 60 series on August 29th, featuring the self-developed Kirin 9000s chip. This indicates that Huawei smartphones only made a real comeback after three months, during which they sold nearly 30 million units. This number is quite extravagant, even somewhat daunting.

Huawei Mate 60 Series

  1. Huawei has limited 5G models available for sale. Following the return of the Huawei Kirin processor, the available Kirin 5G chip models include the Huawei Mate 60 series, the Huawei Mate X5 series, and the Huawei nova 12 series, with only three series of smartphones. Among these, the Huawei Mate X5 series belongs to the high-end category and may not have many buyers. The Huawei Mate 60 series has been in a pre-order state, and the Huawei nova 12 series was only launched at the end of December, so it’s unlikely that it sold a significant number of units.

Huawei 5G Models

  1. The yield rate of Kirin chips is not very high. Industry sources indicate that the current yield rate of Kirin chips is not very high, making it impossible to meet large-scale simultaneous shipments. This is also the reason why the Huawei Mate 60 series smartphones have been consistently out of stock.

So, considering the high number of Huawei smartphone activations reaching 32.407 million units, which models do you think contributed to this achievement?
