China’s Smartphone Market Rankings in December 2023

In December 2023, the ranking of the mobile phone market in China was announced. Xiaomi topped the charts with an impressive activation of 3.48 million units, marking a 25.8% year-on-year growth and securing the first position. Xiaomi delivered outstanding performance in the fourth quarter, maintaining its leading position throughout the entire quarter in the domestic market. The sales of both the Xiaomi 14 series and the Redmi K70 series were remarkable, spanning from the two thousand price range to the four to five thousand price range. It appears that both series and several models have successfully withstood the test of the market.

Apple claimed the second position with 3.36 million units. Despite a 17.7% decline, this achievement is still commendable, considering the phones are all priced above 5000.

Honor ranked third with 3.35 million units. Currently, Honor is focusing on offline markets. Although online visibility has decreased, the steady progress shows promise with a 12.4% year-on-year growth.

Vivo claimed the fourth spot this month with 3.26 million units, experiencing a 9.6% year-on-year decline. The Vivo X100 series, released in November, received acclaim for its camera quality and battery life. The iQOO 12 series and Vivo S18 also showcased strong performance, indicating potential for growth.

This quarter, OPPO recorded sales of 3.22 million units, marking a significant 23.85% decline. The recent releases of OnePlus 12 and realme GT0 5 Pro have gained attention for their excellent value for money. OnePlus 12 competes directly with the Xiaomi 14 standard version in terms of memory and starting price, while the realme GT0 5 Pro competes with the Redmi K70 Pro, offering compelling value for money.

Huawei witnessed a remarkable surge of 59.2% this quarter. The Huawei Mate60 series continued to lead in sales this month. The strong performance of high-end phones signifies the popularity of Huawei’s brand, showcasing excellence in performance, camera quality, satellite communication, among other features. Certainly, the breakthrough in chip technology has been impressive. At the end of the month, the nova 12 series was launched, indicating a promising start for a significant increase in January 2024.

Congratulations to Xiaomi, Huawei, and Honor for their year-on-year growth. Vivo and OPPO need to step up their game. Domestic smartphones continue to make strides, with new releases from major domestic brands this year being exceptionally impressive. If you are considering an upgrade, these new smartphones undoubtedly outperform iPhones in the four to five thousand price range.
