Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s Battery Revolution: Silicon-Carbon Tech Inside

Xiaomi Unveils New Products at the Launch Event on February 22, 2024

On February 22, 2024, at 19:00, Xiaomi will host a product launch event to introduce new products such as the digital flagship Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Mi Pad 6S Pro. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra, as the flagship model of the Xiaomi 14 series, not only excels in imaging quality but also undergoes significant improvements in terms of durability, battery life, and communication. Especially noteworthy is its battery technology, featuring the high-energy-density, high-performance, and long-lasting “Xiaomi Jinsha River Battery” with silicon-carbon anode.

Xiaomi's Battery Revolution

In terms of design, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra resembles the Xiaomi 13 Ultra with a center-aligned circular camera unit accented by delicate Parisian stud patterns on the back. The new back curve flattens the protruding part of the 13 Ultra, providing a more comfortable grip. The front features a fully equal-depth curved screen, while the body utilizes Xiaomi’s Dragon Armor structure for enhanced ruggedness.

Regarding communication, it is equipped with the Xiaomi Surging T1 signal enhancement chip to boost Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular communication performance, and introduces bidirectional satellite communication technology for connectivity even in remote areas.

Xiaomi's Battery Revolution

Imaging has always been a strong suit of the Ultra series. Xiaomi 14 Ultra adopts a new Leica dual telephoto dual macro optical system, comprising a 3.2x upright telephoto lens and a 5x variable periscope lens with focal lengths of 75mm and 120mm, respectively, utilizing the high dynamic-range IMX858 sensor.

The main camera features a Sony Light LYT-900 1-inch image sensor with a second-generation stepless adjustable aperture, reaching a maximum aperture of ƒ/1.63. Besides optical qualities, the computational photography is upgraded to “Xiaomi AISP,” utilizing all the computational power of the SoC, implementing comprehensive large-model imaging algorithms to create a leading-edge mobile imaging optical system.

Xiaomi's Battery Revolution

In terms of battery life, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra shows Ultra-level advancements by introducing the new “Xiaomi Jinsha River Battery” with a capacity of 5300mAh (compared to the previous 5000mAh), resulting in a 17% increase in battery life. It employs the latest generation silicon-carbon anode technology with silicon content of up to 6% to achieve high energy storage in a compact size.

Xiaomi's Battery Revolution

Xiaomi has been exploring battery materials early on. In September 2019, the Xiaomi concept phone MIX Alpha experimented with nano-silicon anode material batteries, achieving 40W fast charging on a 4050mAh battery. In March 2021, Xiaomi 11 Ultra adopted a silicon-oxygen anode material battery, making new material batteries more than just conceptual. The following year, Xiaomi 12s Ultra also used a silicon-oxygen anode single cell.

Xiaomi's Battery Revolution

Returning to this year’s Xiaomi 14 Ultra, the advanced “Xiaomi Jinsha River Battery” with silicon-carbon anode technology is more mature, containing higher silicon content, reaching an energy density of 779Wh/L with an 8% reduction in battery volume. When it comes to fast charging, it supports 90W proprietary wired fast charging and wireless charging up to a staggering 80W, and the accompanying charger is expected to be the familiar USB-A to USB-C 90W MDY-14-EC.

Xiaomi's Battery Revolution

Furthermore, according to information from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra also comes with a special accessory — a professional photography handle (mobile power bank) to help photography enthusiasts better handle the phone for photography. It includes a built-in battery that can serve as a power bank to enhance the phone’s battery life, supporting 5V2A input and 5V1.5A output.

Charging Head Network Conclusion

Apart from the powerful Leica quad-camera system, Xiaomi, as a leading brand in fast charging technology, introduces the new “Xiaomi Jinsha River Battery” in the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, which is equally promising. Unlike the rapid advancements in charging power, each small advancement in battery technology has been hard-earned. After several explorations like nano-silicon anode and silicon-oxygen anode, Xiaomi finally achieves mass production of the silicon-carbon anode “Xiaomi Jinsha River Battery” with higher silicon content, allowing for greater energy storage in a small battery compartment, which is truly commendable.

The Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro received high market acclaim upon release. As the flagship of the series, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra will be launched tomorrow. For more details, you can watch the event on February 22 at 19:00. Charging Head Network will also conduct relevant fast charging tests on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra and its accessories in the future. Interested individuals can stay tuned for updates.
