Weekly Mobile Activation Rankings in China (April 1st – April 7th)
On April 13th, the BCI (Brand Cellular Index) released its weekly rankings for mobile activations in China for the 14th week of the year. Compared to the previous week, there have been significant changes in the rankings once again. Vivo has reclaimed the top spot on the weekly rankings with an 18% market share, significantly ahead of other manufacturers. It seems that the sales of the Vivo X Fold3 series are still doing very well. Let’s take a closer look at the updated rankings.
1. Vivo: Reigning Supreme
Vivo, including iQOO phones, secured the first position with a market share increase from 16.11% to 18%, leaving the second-place contender (16.2%) far behind. Breaking it down, iQOO’s share rose from 3.6% to 4.0%, despite no new iQOO models released this week. Vivo’s overall market share climbed from 12.5% to 14%, hitting its peak for 2024. The recent release of the Vivo X Fold3 series (April 3rd) seems to have played a significant role. According to the latest leaks, the series’ initial sales reached 39% of the total sales of its predecessor, indicating strong consumer endorsement.
2. Xiaomi: Holding Strong
Xiaomi, including Redmi, secured the second position with a market share increase from 15.7% to 16.2%, marking its highest achievement on the 2024 weekly rankings. The Xiaomi Civi4 Pro was launched on March 26th, with market shares of 15.3% and 15.7% in the preceding two weeks, indicating steady sales. According to insiders, the combined activations of OnePlus Ace3V and Xiaomi Civi4 Pro over the past two weeks stood at 10:14, a surprising outcome considering the price points.
3. Honor: Facing Challenges
Honor saw a decline in market share from 16.3% to 15.8%, losing its chance for a third consecutive win. With no new Honor models released this week, the decrease in market share was expected. There are no indications of upcoming Honor releases in April either. Apple secured the fourth position, with its market share dropping from 14.9% to 14.1%, hitting its lowest point in the past seven weeks. Leaks about the iPhone SE4 have surfaced recently, but it remains uncertain if it will be officially launched this year. Apple’s decline in market share in the Chinese market has been quite severe this year.
5. Huawei and OPPO: Neck and Neck
Huawei and OPPO, including OnePlus, shared the fifth position with a market share of 13.9%, closely trailing the fourth-place contender (14.1%). Compared to last week, Huawei’s market share increased slightly from 13.8% to 13.9%, showing modest growth. Leaks suggest that the Huawei P70 series is set to launch soon, which could boost Huawei’s performance in the coming weeks. However, OPPO’s situation is quite different, with its market share dropping from 15.3% to 13.9%, indicating a significant decline. OnePlus saw a decrease from 2.5% to 1.9%, suggesting that the sales of OnePlus Ace3 V fell below expectations, especially considering it was only the second week since its release. OPPO’s market share dropped to 12%, its lowest in the past seven weeks. The recent release of the OPPO A3 Pro, scheduled for April 19th, will only reflect in the Week 16 data.
7. Smartisan and Realme: Moderate Growth
Smartisan saw a slight increase in market share from 2.3% to 2.4%, indicating modest growth. Realme, on the other hand, witnessed a surprising jump from 1.4% to 1.8%, a considerable increase. The recent release of the Realme GT Neo6 SE on April 17th might have contributed to this unexpected boost. Data on activation numbers for this model will be available in Week 16. It’s surprising because there were no new releases from Realme last week (excluding models like Realme 12x).
Closing Thoughts from Qi Ji:
Regarding the Week 14 rankings, here are my thoughts: If Huawei doesn’t make a move soon, Vivo might snatch the top spot for the first half of the year. Additionally, the upcoming iQOO Z9 series, focusing on extended battery life, shouldn’t have any trouble securing several weekly championships. Xiaomi achieved over 16% market share for the first time, thanks to the Civi series. I’m eager to see the debut sales performance of the Redmi Turbo3 in Week 16. OPPO needs to step up its game; otherwise, we might see a significant decline in both domestic and international rankings.
