Apple iPhone 16 Series Preview: Larger Display, Wi-Fi 7, Improved Heat Dissipation, and More

Apple is expected to release the iPhone 16 series in September 2024, which will include four models: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. According to reliable leaks circulating on the internet, these new models are anticipated to bring significant changes and innovations in terms of design, performance, camera, connectivity, and more.

iPhone 16 Series

Here are some of the key highlights:

Display and Size

According to various reliable sources, including industry analyst Ross Young, both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature larger screens.

The iPhone 16 Pro is expected to come with a 6.3-inch display, compared to the 6.1-inch display of the previous iPhone 15 Pro.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a 6.9-inch display, up from the 6.7-inch display of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

These screens will continue to utilize OLED technology and support the ProMotion feature with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Battery and Charging

As per the digital blogger Kosutami, the iPhone 16 Pro will feature a graphene heat dissipation battery with a capacity of 3355mAh, an improvement from the 3095mAh capacity of the iPhone 15 Pro.

Additionally, there are reports that the iPhone 16 Pro will utilize a new battery stacking design, potentially allowing for 40W wired charging, doubling the current 20W charging speed.

Camera

The iPhone 16 Pro will adopt the same 5x zoom periscope camera as the current iPhone 15 Pro Max, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max is expected to feature a new “super telephoto camera” for achieving extended zoom capabilities.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also reports that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will use a new Sony camera sensor for the primary camera, a change that is anticipated to significantly improve low-light photography.

Analyst Jeff Pu further reports that the iPhone 16 Pro will feature a new 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a significant improvement from the current 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera of the iPhone 15 Pro.

Connectivity

Both Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu claim that the iPhone 16 Pro will support Wi-Fi 7, which is capable of achieving peak speeds of 30Gbps, three times faster than Wi-Fi 6. In addition, the iPhone 16 Pro will also utilize Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 modem, enabling 7.5Gbps 5G download speeds, twice the speed of the current iPhone 15 Pro.

Other

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro will be powered by the A18 Pro chip, while the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will use the A18 chip. These two chips are expected to exhibit significant performance differences.

According to tech media outlet The Information, Apple is exploring the introduction of a dedicated camera button in the iPhone 16 series. This button is anticipated to retain a mechanical design instead of a capacitive solid-state button, allowing it to respond to user touch input. As a result, users can zoom in or out, respond to changes in pressure, lightly press to focus, and press firmly to take a photo.
