Latest News on Qualcomm Snapdragon Processors

Today, the digital blogger @数码闲聊站 revealed the latest news about the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 series processor. It’s reported that this processor, codenamed SM8635, shares the same architecture as the Snapdragon 8 Gen3 (codenamed SM8650) and outperforms the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 (codenamed SM8550) in AnTuTu benchmark scores, which is very promising.

The AnTuTu benchmark score of Snapdragon 8 Gen2 is around 1.6 million, indicating that the performance of SM8635 will exceed 1.6 million. At the same time, according to the blogger @体验more, the codenames SM7675 (Snapdragon 7+ Gen3) and SM8635 are both cliffs, suggesting that they are two versions of the same architecture with different frequencies. This means that these two processors will have similar performance.

Furthermore, @数码闲聊站 also stated on January 16 that the SM7675 (Snapdragon 7+ Gen3) uses the same architecture as the Snapdragon 8 Gen3 and will have two versions with different frequencies, making it the most powerful Snapdragon 7 series chip ever.

It can be said that the content of both revelations basically align. So, why do two almost identical processors have completely different model numbers? Personally, it’s speculated that SM8635 may be a downgraded version of Snapdragon 8 Gen3, while the other is the mentioned Snapdragon 7+ Gen3. This is in line with the positioning of these two processors, similar to the downgraded version of Snapdragon 8+ and Snapdragon 7+ Gen2 from previous years.

It’s worth noting that in December of last year, @数码闲聊站 hinted that Redmi would be the first to launch a device with this SoC. The probable debut model would be the Redmi Note 13 Turbo, which has raised our expectations for it.

Last year, the Redmi Note 12 Turbo was the first to be equipped with the Snapdragon 7+ Gen2 flagship processor. This chip, with a starting price of 1999 yuan, made the phone the most cost-effective option in its price range immediately upon release.

Based on the current revelations, the upcoming Redmi Note 13 Turbo is expected to be equipped with the new SM8635 processor. In terms of performance, it will undoubtedly be unrivaled among mid-range models. The release of this new model is undoubtedly another strong move by Xiaomi in the mid-range smartphone market.

From the information available, the performance of the SM8635 processor is outstanding, with an AnTuTu benchmark score exceeding 1.7 million. This also raises our expectations for the upcoming release of the Redmi Note 13 Turbo.
