On February 22, the tech world is gearing up for the first high-end showdown of the Year of the Dragon. Two major product launch events are set to take place one after the other in the realm of mobile phones.
At 14:30 today, Huawei will unveil the new generation of its compact foldable device, the Huawei Pocket 2, at a stylish ceremony. Later in the evening at 19:00, Xiaomi will host its first-ever “People, Cars, and Home Ecosystem” event, with the spotlight on the flagship camera phone, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra.

While both phones belong to the high-end flagship category, they cater to different market segments and have distinct positioning. Furthermore, having them launch on the same day adds a sense of rivalry.
A significant number of consumers are eager to learn about the chip model of the Huawei Pocket 2. According to leaks, this device will be powered by the Kirin 9000S chip, addressing the previous use of Qualcomm 4G chips in Huawei’s earlier foldable models.
In terms of design, the standard version of the Huawei Pocket 2 will be available in four color options: Coco White, Tahiti Gray, Nuo Purple, and Black. Additionally, a special edition designed by global custom designers will also be released.
Rumors suggest that the special edition will feature the “Butterfly Wing Craft” naked-eye suspended 3D technology, significantly enhancing the visual, tactile, and experiential aspects of the phone.

On the other hand, the core specifications of the flagship Xiaomi 14 Ultra have already been revealed. The company touts, “Xiaomi 14 Ultra, all-round Ultra, strength Ultra, battery Ultra, communication Ultra – from imaging to technology, every aspect has been enhanced.”
As a camera flagship, the main camera boasts a 50-megapixel Sony IMX 900 sensor and is equipped with a 3.2x portrait lens and a 5x periscope telephoto lens.
Notably, with the support of a generative AI model, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra promises ultra-clear images even at over 30x high zoom.
In other aspects, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra features a highly durable new Xiaomi Dragonframe architecture, a new ultra-high-density silicon-carbon negative electrode battery, and the new Xiaomi Surging T1 signal enhancement chip.
Moreover, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra supports a bi-directional satellite communication system enabling satellite calling and messaging. It can send location information and also carry wearable device vital signs data.
