China’s ‘Wing Loong-2H’ Drone’s First Cloud Seeding in Guizhou

China’s Wing Loong-2H Drone Successfully Conducts Cloud Seeding Operation in Guizhou

On March 10th, according to the official Weibo account of Aviation Industry, China’s independently developed Wing Loong-2H meteorological unmanned aerial vehicle recently carried out its first artificial rain enhancement flight in the western region of Guizhou Province.

During this mission, the Wing Loong-2H drone took off from the Yuezhao Airport in Liupanshui at 10:00 that day and flew for nearly 5 hours, covering areas including Bijie, Liupanshui, and Anshun in Guizhou Province, marking the first artificial rain enhancement operation conducted by the Wing Loong-2H meteorological drone in Guizhou.

It was mentioned by the officials that the drone will continue to conduct regular operations, focusing on key areas such as crucial grain production zones, ecological restoration areas, and key watersheds. This will effectively alleviate the adverse impacts of drought-induced extreme weather, improve soil moisture conditions, and create favorable conditions for spring agricultural production.

Upon further investigation by IT Home, it was revealed that the Wing Loong-2H meteorological drone used in this artificial rain enhancement operation is a large-scale unmanned aerial system developed for atmospheric detection and weather modification tasks based on the original Wing Loong-2 drone system. The drone measures 11 meters in length, 4.1 meters in height, has a wingspan of 20.5 meters, a maximum speed of 370 km/h, a flight endurance of 32 hours, a maximum takeoff weight of 4200 kilograms, and a practical ceiling of 9900 meters.
