Sneak Peek of iPhone 16 Series Models Reveals “Camera” Button Addition
Recently, Sonny Dickson, a reliable source, shared tweets showcasing the dummy units of four models from the iPhone 16 series. The overall design is quite similar to the iPhone 15 series, with the key addition being a “camera” button.
Based on the leaked dummy unit photos, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are quite similar to their predecessors, featuring the addition of a “camera” button.
Earlier rumors suggested screen sizes would be increased to 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, but these details couldn’t be confirmed from the dummy units.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus adopt a vertical camera bump design similar to the iPhone X, with the flash positioned to the right of the camera island, featuring operational buttons and the new camera button on the side.
Meanwhile, foreign media outlet Yankodesign created high-definition renders of the iPhone 16 based on the family portrait dummy unit spy shots.
The blog showcased multiple high-definition renders of the iPhone 16 phones, highlighting the major difference being the inclusion of the camera button.
Looking back at the leaks regarding the Apple iPhone 16 series, it’s highly likely that a significant change is imminent, bringing in a new button specifically for capturing photos.
Initially, last year, MacRumors published an article stating that Apple was experimenting with adding a new button on the right side of the iPhone 16, introducing a new capacitive camera button.
The media also produced a set of renders showcasing the design effect of the camera button, confirmed to be used for shooting by Mark Gurman.
Subsequently, The Information reported that Apple is exploring the introduction of a dedicated camera button in the iPhone 16 series, sharing more details.
The report highlighted that the newly added camera button would still be a mechanical button, not a capacitive solid-state button. Similar to the other buttons on existing iPhones, it would register physical movement upon being pressed.
Following this, Theapplehub, inspired by Majin Bu, created renders of the iPhone 16 series.
The renders clearly depict the new camera button on the iPhone 16.
Additionally, 91Mobiles shared CAD renders of the iPhone 16 Pro, showcasing information about the new buttons.
According to the CAD renders, a camera button was added below the power button, expected to not only trigger photo and video captures but also potentially enable functions like focal length adjustment and zoom level control.
Moreover, a blogger displayed mock-ups of the iPhone 16 series, revealing that all models would come equipped with a physical “camera key” located on the side of the device, replacing the space for the 5G mmWave antenna on US versions, nearly flush with the body. This key is poised to be a major selling point, further enhancing its prowess as a video-capturing tool.
Notably, a set of photos shared by a user revealed that at least one accessory manufacturer had prepared for the rumored “camera key” of the iPhone 16.
A slot was observed beneath the power button on the right side of the protective case, precisely where the rumored “camera key” would be placed.
The introduction of this novel camera button in the Apple iPhone 16 series has sparked widespread discussions. Users in the IT House app’s comment section are engaging in heated debates.
The predominant opinion revolves around users being skeptical about the new button’s purpose, doubting its functionality for photography.
They argue that the button’s placement isn’t conducive to photography and doesn’t align with users’ handholding habits while taking photos.
Those suggesting it could be a photography button propose it should be positioned slightly lower, similar to the placement on the Nokia Lumia 930.
Furthermore, there are speculations that the button might be defined as an “AI button”, aligning with current trends while offering functionalities beyond just photography.
As for how Apple will eventually name and implement the new button’s functions, it is expected that clarity will gradually emerge as more leaks surface.
