Presenting the New Flagships of Samsung and OPPO: Embracing the AI Era
A few days ago, the highly anticipated Android flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, was finally unveiled. Upon watching the launch event, it became evident that the new phones have many outstanding features, especially the ultra-large model, the Samsung S24 Ultra. Not only does it sport a 6.8-inch 2K OLED display, but it also features a titanium metal frame similar to that of Apple. The overall look of the phone appears sturdier, and the chin is noticeably narrower compared to the previous generation.
Additionally, the Samsung S24 Ultra boasts a new quad-camera system with a 200-megapixel main camera. However, this time Samsung has done away with the ultra-telephoto lens and instead opted for a 10x zoom based on AI algorithms, which is said to improve the photography experience compared to the previous generation. Furthermore, it is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy customized chip, with the maximum core frequency increased from 3.3GHz to 3.39GHz, ensuring peak performance.
Moreover, the standout feature of the Samsung S24 Ultra is the Galaxy AI, which introduces AI functions such as instant search, real-time translation during calls, image assistant, and note assistant.
Among these, the most practical one, in my opinion, is the “image assistant,” which offers efficient AI-based image editing, commonly known as image removal. It allows users to select and move subjects within an image to another location, filling the vacant space with AI-generated content, yielding impressive results. Overall, this year’s flagship excels in both upgraded aesthetics and AI experiences.
Chinese Manufacturers Have Also Embraced AI Early:
After watching the launch event, it’s clear that this year is indeed the year of AI. Apart from Samsung, Chinese smartphone manufacturers have also been focusing on AI capabilities. For instance, the recently launched OPPO Find X7 series, a flagship in imaging, incorporates the AndesGPT model and utilizes a self-trained on-device AI model with 7 billion parameters.
Unlike other smartphones, the OPPO Find X7 series integrates AI capabilities at the operating system’s core, allowing flexible and on-the-fly AI invocation during everyday use, offering users a novel AI experience. What’s even more remarkable is that it not only achieves a 7-billion-parameter AI capability but also maintains a size of only about 3.9GB.
The OPPO Find X7 series also introduces a new feature, the “XiaoBu Assistant,” which possesses over 100 AI capabilities for various scenarios in daily life, office work, and creative tasks. It not only handles basic functions like encyclopedia searches, telling jokes, and writing copy but also offers many other powerful features. Its AIGC removal feature is equally noteworthy, enabling one-click removal of subjects in images.
For example, in a photo where a passerby accidentally appears, users can easily eliminate the person by using the AIGC removal feature in the album. Through analysis by the AI model, the person in the photo disappears seamlessly, with natural fill-in for the removed area, leaving no trace of editing.
In addition, leveraging its powerful model, the OPPO Find X7 series introduces AI Call Summary, which intelligently recognizes call content, records key information, and generates call summaries immediately after the call ends, even accurately listing various pending tasks.
Aside from call records, intelligent article summarization is also a must-have for professionals. For instance, when a boss suddenly posts a lengthy article in a work group, requiring everyone to read and share their thoughts in 5 minutes during a meeting, this task can be delegated to the new XiaoBu Assistant to quickly summarize the main content, significantly improving efficiency.
Furthermore, the OPPO Find X7 Ultra introduces its own distinctive features, particularly in imaging, being the first in the world to feature dual periscope quadruple cameras, as well as the use of the Sony LYT-900 1-inch large base main camera. With a resolution of 50 million pixels for all four cameras, it is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and a self-developed tidal architecture, supporting 100W SuperVOOC fast charging and 50W wireless flash charging. The screen is a 2K Oriental panel, and the use of LTPO 8T material makes the screen more energy-efficient and smoother, making it an all-round flagship.
In Conclusion:
Overall, both OPPO and Samsung have their own strengths, leading the race in AI. The Samsung S24 Ultra and the Find X7 Ultra are currently the top flagship models. With the concerted efforts of smartphone manufacturers, the mobile industry is heading towards comprehensive AI integration in 2024. Now that OPPO and Samsung have taken the lead, it is expected that more manufacturers will join the fray, making it worth looking forward to.
