Top 10 Global Smartphone Sales in 2023 Revealed!

The year 2023 has come to an end, and with it, various smartphone ranking lists have surfaced online. The latest market research firm, Canalys, has announced the top 10 best-selling smartphones globally last year. Looking at the data, it appears that Apple and Samsung are the only brands that made it to the list, dominating the charts. Among them, Apple secured seven spots, undoubtedly emerging as the ultimate winner on the list.

Moreover, all Apple entries on the list are high-end models, with the best-selling ones being the larger-sized models, which is quite impressive. On the other hand, Samsung’s entries consist of the A series phones, targeting the mid to low-end price range. Now, let’s delve into the rankings.

Top 10 Global Smartphone Sales 2023 - Ranking

Claiming the top spot is the iPhone 14 Pro Max, with sales reaching 34 million units. Despite not being the latest model (released in September 2022), its sales figures are still outstanding. In terms of specifications, it holds up very well even now with the A16 processor, LiDAR technology, remaining quite competitive. Of course, compared to the latest iPhone 15 series, there isn’t much difference, making it hard to distinguish between them.

iPhone 14 Pro Max

The second spot is secured by the iPhone 15 Pro Max, boasting sales of 33 million units. Considering that the iPhone 15 Pro Max was only released in September last year, achieving 33 million sales in such a short time is truly remarkable. Compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, there may not be significant differences in appearance, but there are substantial upgrades such as the more powerful A17 chip, a unique 5X optical zoom lens, the inclusion of a USB-C port, and a titanium alloy mid-frame that contributes to a lighter and thinner device. Consumers seem very willing to purchase with these kinds of upgrades.

iPhone 15 Pro Max

In third place is the iPhone 14, with sales of 29 million units. Its sales figures are quite close to the iPhone 14 Pro following it, both at 29 million units. The standard iPhone model is also a significant player in Apple’s sales. After all, compared to the Pro version, it comes at a more affordable price. Even without features like high refresh rates or telephoto lenses, once the price drops to a certain level, it becomes very popular. It is believed that before long, sales of the iPhone 15 will also rise. Despite ranking at the bottom of this list, its upgrades are significant, such as the introduction of “LiDAR technology” in screen design and the inclusion of a USB-C port, which will likely spark consumer interest.

Finally, let’s take a look at the three Samsung smartphones. They might be relatively unfamiliar here in our country, with two of them even being 4G devices, but all three have sales figures in the range of 20 million units. High-end models are missing, indicating that the Android camp still needs to step up its game. Furthermore, in this ranking, no Chinese brands made it to the list, which was largely dominated by Samsung and Apple. It seems like more effort is needed!
