Apple to Rename “Apple ID” to “Apple Account” in iOS 18
Tech journalist Mark Gurman confirmed on March 18th that Apple is planning to rename “Apple ID” to “Apple Account” within this year.
Recently, MacRumors also revealed that Apple is considering renaming “Apple ID” to “Apple Account” as early as this year.
With the comprehensive rebranding later this year, the term “Apple ID,” used for over 20 years, will gradually become a thing of the past.
Gurman mentioned today that the new name “Apple Account” will be implemented in the significant software updates Apple is about to release later this year, such as iOS 18 for the iPhone and watchOS 11 for the Apple Watch.
Previously, Apple has referred to the funds added to the Apple ID as “Apple Account Balance,” and internally at Apple, there is a dedicated team for “Apple Account.”
The reason behind Apple’s decision is not yet clear, but perhaps the term “Apple Account” is more beneficial for brand communication.
Apple is set to unveil iOS 18 and other crucial software updates at the WWDC developer conference in June, where they might announce this renaming plan and begin massive rollout in September.
