On March 23, 2024, Nolan Abbot, the first chip-implanted participant of Elon Musk’s brain-computer interface company Neuralink, successfully posted his first message on X platform (formerly known as Twitter) using mind control. Abbot mentioned that Twitter had banned him, suspecting him of being a bot, but with the help of X and Elon Musk, he regained his normal access.

Musk retweeted the post, stating, “First post transmitted by thought using the Neuralink mind control device!”

Nolan Abbot, a quadriplegic, has been able to type and play games through mind control thanks to the brain-computer interface. Previously, Neuralink also shared a video of him playing chess through thoughts.

Established in 2016, Neuralink focuses on establishing a communication channel between the human brain and external devices. They plan to implant ultra-fine wires in the brain, connecting them to a custom-designed chip that can interpret information from groups of neurons.

Musk has expressed that Neuralink’s short-term goal is to help quadriplegics type by thought and holds ambitions to enable them to walk and blind individuals to see in the future, ultimately realizing the vision of a “symbiosis between humans and AI.”
