The first chip implant recipient of Neuralink, a brain-computer interface company under Musk’s umbrella, Nolan Abbot, successfully posted his first message on X platform (formerly Twitter) using mind control. Abbot mentioned that Twitter had banned him, suspecting him of being a bot, but with the help of X and Elon Musk, he has regained normal access.
Musk retweeted the post, adding, “First post sent through thoughts, using the Neuralink mind sensor!”
It is reported that Nolan Abbot, a quadriplegic patient, has been able to type and play games through mind control using the brain-computer interface. Previously, Neuralink also released a video of him playing chess with his mind.
Neuralink was founded in 2016 with a mission to establish a communication channel between the human brain and external devices. They plan to implant ultra-fine wires into the brain, connecting them to a custom-designed chip that can read neural group information through electrodes.
Musk has mentioned that Neuralink’s short-term goal is to assist quadriplegic patients in typing through thoughts, with hopes of enabling paralyzed individuals to walk and blind people to see in the future, ultimately realizing the vision of a “symbiosis between humans and machines.”
