Aliyun & MediaTek Launch Mobile AI: Tongyi Qianwen on Dimensity 9300

Recently, a significant announcement from MediaTek and Aliyun has caught widespread attention in the industry. It has been reported that MediaTek has successfully deployed the Tongyi Qianwen large model on its flagship chip, the Dimensity 9300, marking a new milestone in AI on mobile devices. This collaboration will have a profound impact on AI applications in smartphones and showcases the strong capabilities of both companies in the field of artificial intelligence.

As one of the leading semiconductor companies in global smartphone chip shipments, MediaTek has been dedicated to innovation in the field of AI. The successful deployment of large models on flagship chips like the Dimensity 9300 provides robust support for Aliyun’s self-developed foundational large models such as Tongyi Qianwen. This breakthrough enables users to smoothly engage in multi-turn AI conversations offline, significantly enhancing the intelligence level of mobile devices.

Tongyi Qianwen, developed by Aliyun as a foundational large model, has released multiple versions with model sizes ranging from 1.8 billion to 7 billion parameters, including multimodal large models like Qwen-VL and Qwen-Audio. The collaboration with MediaTek implies that large models such as Tongyi Qianwen will be applied on a broader range of smart terminal devices, offering users a more efficient and intelligent experience.

This partnership not only brings new possibilities to AI applications on smartphones but also highlights the strong technological capabilities and forward-thinking of MediaTek and Aliyun. During the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, MediaTek unveiled multiple artificial intelligence applications, including the Dimensity 9300 and 8300 chips. These initiatives further demonstrate MediaTek’s leading position and innovation in the field of artificial intelligence.

It is worth mentioning that in addition to the partnership with Aliyun, Qualcomm is also actively promoting the implementation of large models on mobile devices. The latest release of the third-generation Snapdragon 8s mobile platform supports large language models with up to 10 billion parameters, providing enhanced support for AI applications on smartphones.

With the continuous growth of cloud-based large models, edge AI is on the verge of a golden age. This collaboration will accelerate the popularization and application of AI technology on smartphones, pushing the level of intelligence in smart terminal devices to a new height.
