Recently, the analysis firm Counterpoint released data on the smartphone shipment volume in India for the year 2023. The data reveals that the Indian market performed steadily in 2023, with a shipment volume reaching 152 million units. The market faced challenges in the first half of the year but benefited from 5G upgrades and festival sales in the second half, surpassing expectations.
Looking at the specifics, Samsung led the market in 2023 with an 18% share, marking its first time at the top since 2017. Vivo followed with a 17% share, dominating the entry to mid-range market with a 33% share. Xiaomi took the lead in the fourth quarter of 2023 with an 18.3% share but ultimately settled in third place. Realme and OPPO held the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
Additionally, Apple has shown increased interest in the Indian market, with its brand’s shipment volume surpassing the 10 million mark for the first time, securing the top spot in annual revenue.
Some analysts predict that in 2024, foldable screens are expected to become more popular in the high-end market, with shipments surpassing the 1 million mark. Furthermore, driven by features like Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Vision recording, enhancements in smartphone audio and video capabilities are expected to show a growing trend.
