Huawei Unveils Pura Series: A New Chapter for the P Series
On April 15th, Huawei’s official Weibo account released a teaser video for the “P Series.”
During the announcement, Huawei’s Executive Director and CEO of the Consumer Business Group, Richard Yu, revealed that the P series is being rebranded as HUAWEI Pura, marking a fresh start for the lineup. The first product under this new series will be the HUAWEI Pura 70.
Since the launch of the P1 in 2012, the P series has spanned a 12-year journey. Richard Yu mentioned, “The history of the Huawei P series is not just about mobile imaging but also the evolution of technological aesthetics.”
Huawei Releases the Pura 70 Series Teaser Video
When will the HUAWEI Pura 70 be available for purchase? How can you reserve one? On April 16th, reporters from Jímù News visited multiple flagship stores and smart living spaces in the Jiang’an, Jianghan, and Wuchang districts of Wuhan, where several store managers or staff members mentioned that the exact release date of the Pura series phones is still uncertain. However, interested consumers could place a “blind order” in advance to secure a spot in the queue. Once the product is officially launched, they can then confirm their order.
The overall market outlook for the sales performance of this series is optimistic. Industry analysts estimate that depending on the demand for restocking of smartphones, the shipment volume of the P70 series is expected to grow significantly to 13-15 million units by 2024, surpassing the Mate 60 series.
Consumers Can “Blind Order” to Secure a Purchase
On April 16th, reporters from Jímù News visited Huawei’s flagship store at Wuhan Wanda Plaza, where the staff mentioned they hadn’t received any information regarding the Pura 70 series. Another staff member at a different Huawei flagship store stated that offline sales would commence based on official announcements, indicating that there were no pre-order activities for the Pura 70 series at the moment.
Heading to the Huawei Smart Living Space in Qunxing City, the store manager mentioned that the sales start date for the Pura 70 series had not been finalized. Despite this, many customers had inquired about the product in the past two days. Customers were encouraged to place a “blind order” by providing their name, contact information, and preferred phone specifications to secure a purchase slot without needing to pay a deposit.
“We have already received blind order requests from over 200 customers,” another staff member at the Huawei Smart Living Space mentioned, highlighting that the known models included Pura 70, Pura 70 Pro+, and Pura 70 Ultra. Customers could express their interest in a particular model, but even with a blind order, availability is not guaranteed upon launch. The staff estimated that the products would be available for purchase in the coming days, with the latest by the end of April or early May.
Regarding prices, Huawei store staff mentioned that the HUAWEI Pura 70 is expected to be around ¥6000, the Pura 70 Pro+ around ¥8000, and the Pura 70 Ultra around ¥10000, with the highest-end variant not exceeding ¥12,000.
Based on the information revealed so far, the Pura 70 series is designed with a triangular camera module and features Huawei’s self-developed Kirin chip, high-density battery, wireless charging, a 50MP main camera, a periscope zoom lens, satellite communication technology, and more. Many users noted that the triangular design of the Pura 70’s camera is distinctive and resembles a spinning top.
Targeting High-End Female Consumers with the Pura Series
“Huawei has upgraded the P series as part of a new marketing campaign, emphasizing the fashion sense of the Pura series through design and distinctiveness to attract more high-end female consumers,” said Xiang Ligang, Director of the Zhongguancun Information Consumer Alliance.
Market analysts are optimistic about the shipment volume of the Huawei Pura 70 series. Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities, previously predicted on social media that compared to the P60 series released in 2023, the Pura 70 series would witness significant growth in shipment volume in 2024. Depending on the strength of demand for restocking smartphones, the shipment volume of Pura 70 is projected to increase by 230% to 13-15 million units; even with a slower demand, an increase of 150% to 10-12 million units is anticipated.
He also emphasized that the significant selling point of the Pura 70 series lies in the adoption of a long-range periscope lens. The Pura 70 Art wide-angle camera incorporates a 1G6P binary-plastic hybrid lens, which, due to the use of molded glass, is priced at 4-5 times that of a 7P lens.
In terms of market performance, BCI Research recently released data on the Chinese smartphone market for the first quarter of 2024, placing Huawei at third with a market share of 15.5%. Additionally, according to a report by Counterpoint Research, the Huawei Mate 60 series continues to attract market demand.
