Apple Watch’s New Patent Reveals Under-Screen Camera Technology
On March 29th, according to a list recently published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Apple Inc. has been granted a patent related to the Apple Watch, focusing on an under-screen camera solution that can be used for taking photos, Face ID, facial and object tracking, and more.
Based on the patent design sketches, the camera can be concealed beneath the screen, with the display panel including a highly transparent area. This setup aims to increase the light transmittance to the camera module without affecting everyday usage.
The size of the highly transparent area may depend on various camera module parameters, including the field of view, entrance pupil size and position, barrel size, F-number, etc. The highly transparent area can be co-designed with the camera module parameters to achieve a smaller highly transparent area and improved camera module performance.
