As an important high-end flagship model for Huawei in the first half of the year, the strong sales of the Huawei Pura 70 series are expected to help Huawei regain its market share peak in the mobile phone industry. In August last year, Huawei released the Mate 60 series and indicated a return to normal pace in its smartphone business, with the expectation of further market share growth. By the first quarter of 2024, Huawei had already entered the top five in market share.

Upgrading to “Huawei Pura”
On the morning of April 15th, Huawei’s official Weibo account released an advanced warm-up video for the P70 series.
In this video, Huawei’s Executive Director and CEO of the Consumer Business Group, Richard Yu, announced that the P series was officially upgraded to “Huawei Pura,” set to embark on a fresh journey. The originally planned P70 will be the first product of this new series.
According to the Securities Times, Mate series and P series have always been the representatives of Huawei’s flagship models. The Mate series mainly targets high-end business users with strong comprehensive performance, while the P series is primarily for photography enthusiasts, continuously making technological breakthroughs in the field of photography.
Shanghai Securities related research reports indicate that the P70 comes with Huawei’s self-developed PanGu large model, achieving a perfect integration of on-device and cloud-side large models in technology. The core highlight is AI photography, providing significant enhancements in features like voice assistants, copywriting generation, and image/video production.
On August 29, 2023, Huawei’s terminal business first launched the “HUAWEI Mate 60 Pro Pioneer Program.” The Huawei Mate 60 Pro model was put on sale without holding a new product launch event and achieved impressive sales numbers. According to Counterpoint data, in the fourth quarter of 2023, Huawei’s global smartphone sales saw a three-digit year-on-year increase, making it the only brand among the top ten smartphone manufacturers to achieve this feat.
The arrival of P70 may continue the previous high demand seen with the Huawei Mate series. Tianfeng International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously predicted that the shipment volume of the Huawei P70 series will significantly grow in 2024. If the demand for restocking phones can be sustained until the first half of 2024, the shipment volume of the P70 series is expected to increase by around 230% to 15 million units in 2024.
With the continuous release of new devices, Huawei’s terminal business revenue is also expected to continue to recover. In 2023, Huawei achieved a revenue of 704.2 billion yuan for the whole year, with a year-on-year revenue growth of 9.6% and a net profit of 87 billion yuan, marking a substantial increase of 144% year-on-year. The terminal business of Huawei became the growth engine of the company’s performance, achieving a sales revenue of 251.5 billion yuan for the year, a significant increase of 17.3% year-on-year.
