On April 22nd, OPPO hosted a media briefing titled “Changing the World a Bit in the Matter of Charging” to commemorate the 10th anniversary of its fast charging technology. OPPO’s fast charging scientist, Zhang Jialiang, reflected on the ten years of pioneering and leading the development of fast charging at OPPO, and shared his insights on the future trends in fast charging technology. During the event, Zhang Jialiang announced that the upcoming OPPO new product, OPPO K12, will be equipped with a long-lasting 100W Super Flash Charge and a 5500mAh large battery, enabling a 5-minute charge for 10 hours of talk time, heralding the era of widespread adoption of 100W fast charging and extended battery life.

In 2014, OPPO introduced the first generation of VOOC fast charging on the Find 7. Over the past decade, from the 22.5W VOOC fast charging to the currently mass-produced 240W SUPERVOOC ultra-fast charging, OPPO has continuously advanced its fast charging technology. What used to be a luxury for a few high-end flagship users has now been experienced by over 300 million people daily, benefiting from the convenience brought by OPPO’s fast charging technology. Zhang Jialiang stated, “OPPO’s fast charging has transformed user habits, alleviated the charging anxiety of countless individuals, and accelerated the popularization of fast charging in the industry, turning fast charging into a standard feature over the past decade.”

Currently, OPPO leads the global mobile industry in fast charging with over 3700 fast charging patent applications, ranking first. Nearly half of the effective authorized patents related to fast charging have a connection to OPPO. Additionally, OPPO has granted fast charging patent licenses to over 40+ fast charging ecosystem partner brands and actively contributed to the development of standards such as the UFCS fusion fast charge, working hand in hand with industry partners to enable more smartphone users to benefit from convenient fast charging services. The continuous technological investment has led OPPO’s fast charging technology to win a national-level scientific and technological silver award.

Zhang Jialiang mentioned that future advancements in fast charging technology will focus on material technology, system improvements, and software enhancements. However, for users, the marginal benefits of charging efficiency have started to decrease gradually. Users not only seek fast charging but also aspire for smartphones with longer-lasting battery life.

During the briefing, Zhang Jialiang announced that the upcoming OPPO K12 is the best-performing smartphone in terms of battery life to date. It features a long-lasting 100W Super Flash Charge and a 5500mAh large battery, providing 5 minutes of charging for 10 hours of talk time. According to DOU’s battery life test, it offers up to 1.88 days of battery life, 8.76 hours of gaming time, and supports an extended standby time of up to 17.28 days.

A decade ago, to resolve the contradictions between the increasing demands for electricity, limited device space, and limited battery capacity, OPPO chose a “tougher but more beautiful” path, ushering in the era of fast charging. Now, with OPPO K12, they aim to address the pain point of mid-range smartphone users who cannot balance fast charging and battery life, promoting the popularization of “100W fast charging” + “extended battery life,” allowing more people to truly enjoy flagship-level experiences of faster charging and longer battery life.
