Apple iPhone 15 Receives Another Price Drop!
Since the launch of the iPhone 15 last year, it has been going through continuous price cuts. It experienced a drop right after its release and has been consistently decreasing in price ever since—discounts for Singles’ Day, discounts for the Double 12 festival, discounts for Chinese New Year, Lantern Festival discounts, and the list goes on.
Not only have third-party retailers reduced the price, but even Apple’s official prices have been slashed, truly surprising everyone.
Recently, the entire iPhone 15 series has received another price reduction on third-party e-commerce platforms:
- iPhone 15 now starts from 4498 RMB,
- iPhone 15 Plus starts from 5298 RMB,
- iPhone 15 Pro starts from 6348 RMB,
- and iPhone 15 Pro Max starts from 7998 RMB.
How drastic are these price drops? Compared to the launch prices, they have been reduced by 1501 RMB, 1701 RMB, 1551 RMB, and 2001 RMB respectively. This level of reduction is quite unprecedented; in previous years, Apple’s older models typically only saw a price drop of around 1000 RMB after the release of a new model.
Comparing the iPhone 15 with its competitor, the Huawei Mate 60 series, we can see that the entire Apple series is now approximately 1000 RMB cheaper than the Huawei Mate 60 series.
As shown in the image below, the iPhone 15 starts from 4498 RMB, while the Huawei Mate 60 starts from 5499 RMB, making it 1001 RMB more expensive. Similarly, the Mate 60 Pro is 1151 RMB more expensive than the iPhone 15 Pro. The Mate 60 Pro+ is also 1001 RMB pricier than the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Why has Apple reduced prices so dramatically? It is mainly because of poor sales, leading them to engage in a price war. Looking at these price reductions, it’s evident that their target is mainly the Huawei Mate 60. Currently, among domestic brands, the only one posing a threat to the iPhone 15 is the Mate 60.
Hence, Apple has drastically cut prices, making their products 1000 RMB cheaper than the Mate 60. It will be interesting to see how consumers choose, especially considering that the availability of Mate 60 might be uncertain while Apple has a plentiful supply of stock.
In all honesty, Apple phones have high profit margins. Once pushed into a corner and forced to compete on pricing with domestic brands, the situation can become quite intense. For instance, with the iPhone 15 priced at 4498 RMB and the Mate 60 at 5499 RMB, which one would you choose? Similarly, with the iPhone 15 Pro Max at 7998 RMB and the Mate 60 Pro+ at 8999 RMB, what would be your pick?
It’s evident that domestic smartphone manufacturers really need to be cautious. Focusing solely on the high-end market may not suffice, as when Apple starts slashing prices, the impact can be significant. After all, Apple’s iOS advantage is still quite pronounced.
